Josephine and Harriet are heroic. Josephine, from a well-to-do family, is trying to break into the mans' world of journalism; Harriet, an ambitious small-town girl, is fending for herself in Victorian London. On the stage and on the streets. Respectable, decent, like Tess, Harriet is a good girl. It is only Harriet's brutal killing that brings her to the notice of Josephine.
Harriet's is a true story buried in time and overtaken by "The Ripper" murderers soon after. Josephine is my alter ego, who, like me, discovers the circumstances and disturbing events of this murder. And she, like me, is determined to tell Harriet's story.
What Josephine would never know was that there were documents relating to the killer that were never seen by the public, but only by elite members of The Met, the Foreign Office, Prime Minister Gladstone - and Queen Victoria. Once I had seen and read them, I knew that I must write Harriet Burton's story.
I hope that my readers are going to enjoy JOSEPHINE AND HARRIET.
Best wishes, Betty Burton.
